Mixed Media
The mixed media component of my art practice explores observations of life around me both in the natural world and everyday life observations.
Layered with meaning- literally and with materials used, I have created complex, detailed textured artworks on paper, fabric and canvas that tell stories of place and its inhabitants.
Aerial Landscapes
From the very first trip I took in a plane I was obsessed with the lines, colours, contours and shape of the land from above.
I explore this view of the world using many layers in my mixed media artwork- ink, paint, watercolour, pencil, pastel, marker and in recent years handstitching and ‘drawing’ with the sewing machine. Embedded within the layers I include found fabric, paper and textiles often imbued with meaning connected to the location travelled to or emphemera I have collected in my travels. This textural, tactile work (on paper, fabric and canvas) tells stories of literal and metaphorical journeys I’ve taken in life.
Mixed media artwork from the collaborative exhibition ‘Hanging by a Thread’ with poet Sally Mackinnon. Exhibited 2021 at The Centre, Beaudesert, Scenic Rim, Queensland, Australia.
Created in response to difficult times in recent years during COVID Lockdowns and focussing on what can be seen locally (Queensland, Australia) and in the backyard. Sally’s visceral poetry converses with the artwork and describes the trauma after the direct impact of bushfire in her Binna Burra community (Qld, Australia) and recovery through resilience and community.
