Dyeing with plants, vegetables, fruit and using natural metals as mordants is always surprising and with serendipitous results...
Eco Dyeing
I discovered Eco Dyeing (using plants and metals to make natural colour on fabric and paper) in 2011 with textile artist Aukje Boonstra in Tasmania. Since then I have continued exploring the creation of natural colour and print using plants in my garden and surrounds.
As well as creating clothing I incorporate my eco dyeing into mixed media artwork building layers of meaning. By using plants and metals from the location collected, the items are imbued with a connection to place adding another layer of relevance and meaning to the creation.
